چکیده

The Land Transformation Model (LTM), which as been developed to forecast urban use changes in a grid-based geographic information system, was used to explore the consequences of future urban changes to the years 2020 and 2040 using non urban sprawl and urban sprawl trends. The model was executed over a large area containing nine of the major coastal watersheds of eastern Lake Michigan. We found that the Black-Macatawa and Lower Grand watersheds will experience the most urban change in the next twenty to forty years. These changes will likely impact the hydrologic

Forecasting land use change and its environmental impact at a watershed scale.

Urban expansion is a major driving force altering local and regional hydrology and increasing non-point source (NPS) pollution. To explore these environmental consequences of urbanization, land use change was forecast, and long-term runoff and NPS pollution were assessed in the Muskegon River watershed, located on the eastern coast of Lake Michigan. A land use change model, LTM, and a web-based...

The 1998 Coastal Turbidity Plume in Lake Michigan

In this paper, numerical models of coastal circulation, wind-waves, and sediment transport are applied to the March 1998 turbidity plume event in Lake Michigan to investigate the role of wind-induced circulation in the offshore transport of sedimentary material in Lake Michigan. Computer visualization is used to compare model results to the evidence of cross-isobath transport suggested in satel...
